ExpanDecor project leads Munksjö’s expansion in Latin America
Major upgrade at Caieiras plant to double production capacity and enhance sustainability with state-of-the-art equipment

Munksjö has announced its most significant investment in Latin America with the launch of the ExpanDecor Project, a transformative initiative to modernize its Caieiras plant in Brazil. Valued at 175 million reais (approximately 30 million euros), the ExpanDecor project focuses on upgrading and converting one of the plant’s paper machines (PM7) to exclusively produce high-quality decor papers. These include print base papers (PBP), low-pressure laminate (LPL) papers, and high-pressure laminate (HPL) papers, catering to both local and international markets.
Upon completion, slated for the first quarter of 2025, the Caieiras plant will significantly enhance its production capabilities, producing decor papers in various sizes ranging from 4 to 8 feet. This expansion will enable Munksjö to meet 100% of Brazil’s decor paper demand while also increasing exports to other Latin American countries.
Innovation and Sustainability Go Hand in Hand
In addition to boosting production, the ExpanDecor project aligns with Munksjö’s commitment to sustainability. For instance, the state-of-the-art machine upgrade is expected to reduce plant water usage by 30% to 50% per ton of paper produced.
Richard Pino, General Manager of the Caieiras plant, emphasized the importance of this project: “After the completion of ExpanDecor, the Caieiras plant will double its production capacity while drastically reducing water consumption. This initiative is a major step forward in fulfilling our sustainability goals.”
A commitment to excellence in Latin America
The Caieiras plant plays a crucial role in Munksjö’s ability to serve its customers across Latin America. According to Dr. Manfred Bracher, CEO of Munksjö, “The investment in ExpanDecor reflects our confidence in the Latin American market. This project demonstrates our commitment to delivering high-quality decorative papers with consistency and excellence, while also improving our environmental impact.”
